Your A30 header tank system is a fully automatic rainwater harvesting header tank. You
will have in conjunction with your A30 a holding tank (either above or below ground).
Your holding tank will have all your rainwater pipes directed to it and will take your rainwater,
filter it and store it ready for your header tank to direct around your home for flushing
toilets, running your washing machine, washing cars...etc. You can use the collected
rainwater for all non-potable applications.
In your holding tank is a submersible pump (sometimes external), this pump is controlled
directly by your header tank. When your header tank gets low its inbuilt float switch will
send power to your submersible pump and top the header tank up with rainwater. This will
always automatically happen until such a time as there is no water in your holding tank.
When there is no water in your holding tank your pump has in build run dry protection so it
will shut off and not pump again until there is water in your tank.
In dry periods your header tank has a lower level mounted ballvalve. This will automatically
top your header tank up with mains water in cases where your float switch has asked for
rainwater form the holding tank but there is none. This will only ever top your system up
approx 1/4 full leaving ample space for the rainwater to fill up when it rains again.
Your system has two overflows. The primary overflow is a 50mm overflow which will be
directed by your installer to an appropriate outlet. Your second outlet is the more important
outlet—this is a 20mm warning nuisance pipe, this will be directed from your header tank
out so it splashes somewhere noticeable in the event of your system overflowing. This is a
design feature so you never waste any water if there is a problem with your system.
Your header tank is the only part of the system with power. This will be in the form of a
standard 13amp plug. Your installers will put a socket in the loft by the header tank.
